Torricelli Mountains garamut slit drum New Guinea / Schlitztrommel Neuguinea ( bun'gi or puink )

The garamut drums from this area are of an unique canoe shaped form and can be played in an upright or in a horizontal position.
Slit gongs are used for musical purposes during ceremonial songs and dances but they are also used to send long distance messages.
